ABOUT THE SCHOOL

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Rejecting conventional pedagogy in arts and sciences, we embrace horizontal, collaborative models where participants drive the learning. The School aims to cultivate a deeper understanding of our world through shared inquiry and the beauty of interconnected knowledge.

This is Nani Ghar's rich playground for cross-pollination of methods and aesthetic inquiry – where we notice what’s there to be noticed and help each other see what we might not see alone.

That project in your drafts? The one you're “still working on”? Let's show it.

We are hosting Open Studio 1 at Nani Ghar, CFAW – a space to share your work exactly as it is. No pressure to be perfect, just a supportive community you need to flourish.

an exhibition for YOUR UNFINISHED WORKS

We know that the creative process isn’t always glamorous. This exhibition makes room for the real, often-difficult process of creation. Showcase your drafts – the unfinished, the raw, the imperfect, the works that have been a struggle – and connect with a community that gets it.

Unfinished masterpieces, works-in-progress, wild ideas – we want to see them all. Submit yours before the deadline: MAY 15 2025_

Fall Semester 2024

Fall 2024 set the stage for the School's very first programming. Moved by the work of Karen Barad, Meeting the Universe Halfway, a group of 11 teacher-participants co-taught a 13-week long course, taking an antidisciplinary approach to topics in ecology, literature and cultural studies, media and technology, data and space sciences through creative inquiries that came together to form a collaborative, community-borne and -centred syllabus.

The School is envisioned and organised by Asad Ali Zulfiqar in 2024, in partnership with CFAW. Our website and visual identity, lovingly designed by Anas Khan, merges science's calculated rigor with poetry's nostalgic flair, linking bodies of knowledge to user-friendly interface design.

This endeavour is indebted to the tireless work of those who, before us, questioned institutionalised pedagogy and illuminated the wayward paths we now explore. The ongoing pedagogical resistance of Karachi LaJamia moves us deeply. Inspired by the unique name and interdisciplinary focus of the NYC-based alternative school, School for Poetic Computation, we share a similar poetic spirit 🌸
