This brave and supportive introductory workshop invites people with lived experience to explore poetry and spoken word as powerful tools for healing and reclaiming their stories.
Through guided prompts, writing exercises, and performance techniques, Catharsis via Poetry offers a brave space—where participants are encouraged to show up with honesty, express vulnerability, and take creative risks in community. No prior writing or performance experience is needed—just a willingness to reflect, speak, and be witnessed.
Khushu (Khush Bakht Memon, she/her) (@bigbrownbeautifulsindh) is a Sindhi, Toronto-based artist, peer support worker, and community advocate. Her work, spanning poetry, performance, and organizing, explores identity, intergenerational trauma, and resilience. Co-founder of Radical Mess Collective, she has participated in writing programs like Writing by the Water and Fat Fables, performing in cities across Pakistan, India, and Canada. With over a decade of mental health advocacy and Peer Support experience, Khushu coordinates peer crisis warmline services at the Krasman Centre and provides trauma-informed support to newcomers, BIPOC communities, and survivors.
