This 8-session course uses art-making as a psychological and symbolic journey, inspired by Carl Jung’s idea of opposites and the importance of balancing them in the psyche. Each session focuses on a symbolic archetype, while the next focuses on its opposite- this helps us dive deeper into a symbol than we could by studying it by itself, and shows us how to address the dark side of each.
Each session will also feature one primary artistic medium, allowing participants to explore inner landscapes through varied material experiences.
The course is designed to move from instinct and chaos into meaning and complexity, and finally toward integration and wholeness. No prior art experience is required. The emphasis is on process, unconscious exploration, and shared imagination.

Schedule of Course
Session 1: The Wilderness - 4 April
The wilderness represents the unconscious before it has been explored. It is what lies beyond our constructed world: raw, untamed, and unknown. In this inner terrain, there may be beasts and dangers, but also allies, instincts, and sources of vitality. This session invites participants to encounter uncertainty and emotion without trying to control or civilize it
Symbol: The Wilderness / The Unexplored Darkness
Medium: Sketching (Graphite / Charcoal)
Session 2: The Secret Garden - 11 April
The secret garden is what the unconscious can become once it has been entered with curiosity rather than fear. Where the wilderness is chaotic and overwhelming, the garden reveals richness, imagination, and rest. Here, buried gifts and creative potential come into view. This session explores the idea that befriending the unconscious does not lead to destruction, but to renewal, nourishment, and a deeper sense of meaning in an otherwise chaotic world.
Symbol: The Secret Garden / A Magical Land with Gifts
Medium: Colour Pencils Only
Session 3: Wise Old Man / Woman - 18 April
We roam through life trying to find our purpose, yet, when we are called to our task, we often balk and refuse it. This is the moment when the wise old man or woman appears, offering reassurance, perspective, and the wisdom needed to cross the threshold. The Senex does not give answers for us, but helps us trust that we are capable of taking the next step.
Symbol: Wise old man or woman, The Senex
Medium: Crayons Only
Session 4: The Child - 25 April
The child is father of the man,” says Wordsworth, and for good reason. Many people lose their zest and passion for life through a lack of engagement with their child self. This part of us may be chaotic, untamed, and sensitive, but it is also the source of play, curiosity, and creativity. Building a relationship with the inner child helps us stay in touch with what is new and alive within us.
Symbol: The Golden / Inner Child, Puer / Puella
Medium: Poster / Acrylic Paints
Session 5: The Sun - 2 May
The sun is the source of all life on Earth. It powers everything from the most basic organism to human consciousness; a star once worshipped as God. Psychologically, the sun represents consciousness, will, clarity, and direction. It illuminates, differentiates, and gives form.
Symbol: The Sun, The Masculine, Yang
Medium: Marker Drawing / Sketching
Session 6: The Moon - 9 May
The moon is our closest celestial body, and unlike the sun, it does not shine by its own light. It reflects, changes, disappears, and returns. Its cycle has long been linked to emotion, intuition, love, and the body—particularly the menstrual cycle and rhythms of fertility. Psychologically, the moon represents receptivity, the unconscious, and relational life.
Symbol: the moon, the feminine, Yin
Medium: Collage-Making
Session 7: Persona / The Mask - 16 May
The persona is the face we present to the world. It is the role we play in society in order to be accepted, understood, and to function. While necessary, over-identification with the persona can lead to a sense of emptiness or inauthenticity.
Symbol: The Mask
Medium: Create wearable masks using paper and art material
Session 8: Shadow - 23 May
The shadow contains the aspects of ourselves that we deny, repress, or disown: instincts, desires, emotions, and traits deemed unacceptable. Yet, the shadow is not only dark; it also holds vitality, creativity, and truth.
Symbol: Shadow
Medium: Clay Moulding.
