Life is stressful for all of us - From traffic jams to burn out, from dissatisfaction in relationships to the unpredictability of life. We've all been there. With the practice of Mindfulness Meditation, we can aim to find a refuge amidst the stress of life. Studies have proven the benefits of Mindfulness in relationships, parenting and as having a direct co-relationship to happiness.
Join Mohsin Kazi for a session on the practice of Mindfulness. In this session, we’ll be discussing the practice of Mindfulness and introducing his seven-week course ‘Mindfulness for Life’.
Course Outline
Week 1: What is Mindfulness?
From New York Times to CNN, Mindfulness seems to be the new buzz word. Is this a new trend or an ancient practice that has been revived? In this session, we will discover the practice of Mindfulness, it’s history and what it promises to offer.
Week 2: The Art of Practice
Practice makes Progress. Like any other skill we can bring more awareness in our life through its continuous practice. In this session, we will be discussing the various ways to practice, the challenges that may arise in practice and how to overcome them.
Week 3: Our Storytelling Minds
As human beings we need stories to navigate our life. Those stories form our beliefs and our beliefs form our realities. Oftentimes when our minds are not trained, we can be lost in a storm of thoughts leading to unpleasant circumstances. In this session we will explore how to bring loving awareness to our thoughts and beliefs.
Week 4: The River of Feelings
The beauty of being a human is the ability to experience different emotions. Our emotions lie on a spectrum from Pleasant to neutral to unpleasant. Happiness, joy, anger, love, curiosity, boredom are all emotions we experience. When the mind is not trained it is possible to be stuck in a cycle of emotional instability. In this session we will learn how to bring loving awareness to our feelings.
Week 5: Cultivating Loving Kindness
When the mind becomes still the heart becomes more open to experience feelings of friendliness towards all beings. In this session we be learning the practice of Metta which is the Sanskrit word for loving kindness.
Week 6: Willingness to be with Things as they Are
Our lives are continuously changing. Suffering arises when we resist this change. The practice of Mindfulness helps us embrace life in all of its ebbs and flows. In this session we will be exploring how to bring loving awareness to the changing nature of life.
Week 7: Happiness and Joy
Happiness and Joy are the by-products of a heart that is free. In this class we will explore what it means to live with a heart that is free and how to cultivate happiness and Joy in our lives.
