Importance of Arts Based Learning

Humans have been telling stories for as long as they have existed. Stories are our way to make meaning of our experiences and transmit these to others. It is the basis of culture. Stories also allow us to dream and imagine possibilities- to live our full potentials. In our storytelling workshops, children will learn how to create and tell the stories that they want to. With only their imagination as the limit, the magic is sure to flow.

There is beauty inside every one of us and art is one effective way to express that. The analogy of art as using our creative imagination to transform a base material into something beautiful is very apt to how we all desire to live our lives.  In our works, children will learn from the ground up how to channel their artistic voice to create authentic art pieces.

The world around us lives and breathes music, from the sound of rain to the creak of a door, there is music all around us. It requires a peculiar skill of “listening” and being open to start with.  In our music sessions, Children will learn to appreciate and create music of their own- maybe to go on become little maestros! And if not, then simply have an experience of the joy of rhythm and sound.

The heartbeat is the most important rhythm in our life as is the daily rising and setting of the sun and the moon. The universe ebbs and flows in rhythm. In our dance classes, children will learn what rhythm is and how to move and express themselves through rhythm and music.

Theatre is an art form developed to maturity by the ancient Greeks- essentially as a way to transmit important moral and ethical principles to the masses and also as cathartic events for communal healing.  Theatre is a great way to find your own voice, learning how to stand in front of others and speak. Children will learn how to channel their voices and enjoy the art and performance of theatre.

Nani’s Ghar offers a unique summer camp using Arts-Based Methodologies to enrich and engage children to help them learn and grow. An Arts-Based Methodologies approach emphasizes the art-making process much more than the actual outputs of the activity. We are not here to “teach”, rather we aim to be guides in a child's journey of discovery and learning. We use multiple art modalities that include visual art, movement, theater, creative writing and more to facilitate a process where children have an opportunity to express, collaborate and creatively develop projects- all the time learning about their personal resources and what makes them special! At Nani’s Ghar we really admire the naive and unbridled imagination that children possess and we firmly believe the world needs more of it. This summer camp helps children harness this imaginative capacity and hone certain skills to truly shine as individuals and members of their community and dream up a future for us all.
